Noida International Airport Jewar Inaugurated: Top 10 Facts, Flight Start Date & Features

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the much-awaited Noida International Airport, marking a major milestone for aviation infrastructure in North India. Located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, this airport is set to become the second international airport serving the Delhi-NCR region after Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The project is expected to reduce congestion in Delhi while boosting connectivity and economic growth across the region.

₹11,000+ Crore Phase 1 Investment

The first phase of the airport has been developed at a cost of around ₹11,282 crore.

The total project, once fully completed, is expected to cost approximately ₹29,560 crore, making it one of India’s biggest airport projects.

Second International Airport for Delhi-NCR

Jewar Airport becomes the second international airport in the Delhi-NCR region.

It is expected to significantly reduce pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is among the busiest in India.

Flights Likely to Start by April–May 2026

Although the airport has been inaugurated, commercial operations will begin after final approvals.

Officials expect the first flights to start between April and May 2026.

Aerodrome Licence Already Secured

The airport has already received its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

This is a key milestone required before launching passenger services.

Phase 1 Capacity: 12 Million Passengers

In its first phase, the airport will be able to handle around 12 million passengers annually.

This capacity will increase significantly in future phases.

Mega Expansion Plan by 2040

Once fully developed, the airport is expected to have up to five runways.

It will handle nearly 70 million passengers per year by 2040, placing it among Asia’s largest airports.

Initially, the airport will operate limited domestic flights.
