Free PNG Gas Offer: Govt Pushes Shift from LPG with ₹500 Benefit and Zero Security Fee

Amid rising global tensions and pressure on fuel supply chains, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has launched a strong push to encourage households to shift from LPG cylinders to piped natural gas (PNG).

To make the transition easier, companies are offering incentives such as free gas worth up to ₹500 and waiving security deposits for new PNG connections.

Free Gas and Zero Security Fee for Consumers

As part of the initiative, households opting for PNG connections will receive gas benefits worth up to ₹500.

In addition, companies are removing security charges, reducing the initial cost burden for consumers.

Why Government Is Promoting PNG

Officials say the move is aimed at reducing India’s dependence on LPG imports.

According to Sujata Sharma, LPG import dependency is significantly higher compared to PNG, making PNG a more stable and sustainable option.

3-Month Window to Shift from LPG

Consumers living in areas where PNG infrastructure is available will be informed through official communication.

They will be given a three-month window to switch from LPG cylinders to PNG connections.

Over 2.2 Lakh Consumers Already Shifted

The shift is already underway, with around 2.2 lakh households having moved from LPG to PNG so far.

This number is expected to rise rapidly as awareness and incentives increase.

Rapid Expansion of PNG Connections

In the past 25 days alone, approximately 2.5 lakh new PNG connections have been issued.

The government is actively working to expand the PNG network across urban areas.

Delhi Allows 24x7 Pipeline Work

To speed up infrastructure development, the Delhi Government has allowed round-the-clock work for PNG pipeline installation.

Road restoration charges have also been waived to support faster rollout.

LPG Supply Still Stable, Says Government

Despite concerns, the government has reassured citizens that there is no shortage of LPG.

Officials have urged people not to panic and avoid believing rumours about supply disruptions.

Crackdown on Black Marketing

Authorities are taking strict action against illegal LPG sales.

Around 2,700 raids were conducted recently, leading to the seizure of nearly 2,000 cylinders.

Online LPG Booking Remains Strong

LPG demand continues to remain high, with about 92% of bookings now being made online.

This indicates stable consumer demand despite the push toward PNG.

Commercial LPG Supply Maintained

To ensure business continuity, the government has allocated around 22,000 tonnes of commercial LPG across 26 states.

Additionally, around 30,000 small 5-kg cylinders were distributed recently.

Alternative Fuel Options Being Explored

The government has also increased kerosene allocations in certain regions as a backup fuel option.

This is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted access to cooking fuel.
